PlayStation Portable 2?

Gizmodo has posted some leaked information of Sony PlayStation Portable 2 (PSP2). It’s cool. PlayStation Poratble (PSP) has been around for more than a year. Is it time for a new portable device? Well, if it is a yes, there will be some concerns regarding this new PSP2

  1. Will the new device be back-compatible with the PSP games?
  2. Will it still support the UMD format?
  3. Will Sony Memory Stick M2 replace the Memory Stick Pro Duo?
  4. Does the new PSP2 have a internal flash drive or hard disk built-in?
  5. Will it support IP calls, like Skype?

The new PSP2 is codenamed Cobalt. Nice name.

PlayStation Portable 2

Erm, not exactly that attractive as compared to the the current PSP. Maybe this is just some concept designs for the new PSP2. And some of the features have answered the concerns, however, there is a need for more details to be available in order for the gamers to make their decision on jumping to the new console.

And wait, the revealation of iPhone from Apple at the MacWorld Conference has sparked interests all over the world, including me. Will PSP2 match up to compete with Apple’s iPhone? We will see.

PSP firmware 2.82

Oops! I missed out on this news. But I will report it now.

Well, it has been some time since version 2.82 is out. Here is the update on this new firmware.

[Network]

  • You can download videos and images under [RSS Channel]
  • You can register your devices when you are connected to a wireless access point using [LocationFree™ Player]. Visit http://www.sony.com/locationfree for more information.
  • World Tour Soccer 06 demo is available for download at http://www.us.playstation.com/worldtoursoccer06demo.

[Music]

  • You can play AAC files with the .3gp file extension.

[Settings]

  • [Automatic] has been added as an option under [Network Settings] > [Infrastructure Mode].

[Other]

  • Support for the playback of content stored in [MUSIC], [VIDEO] and [PICTURE] at the root level of Memory Stick Duo™ media has been added.
  • Included in 2.81 and 2.82: Patches have been added to address security vulnerabilities in the system software.

PSP 2.81 firmware upgrade

Sony has released version 2.81 for its highly portable PSP, the new firmware does not feature any major changes to the functions of PSP itself. This new firmware is released to address a security vulnerability in the system software.

PSP 2.80 firmware upgrade

The hottest gadget, PlayStation Portable, has a new update to its famous firmware. Sony has just released version 2.80 firmware, with the following features,

[Network]

  • Able to download videos and images in [RSS Channel] now.
  • You can register devices under [LocationFree Player] using a wireless access point

[Music]

  • Able to play AAC files with *.3gp extension

[Setting]

  • [Automatic] has been added into [Network Setting] > [Infrastructure Mode] as an option.

[Other]

  • Support for use of files stored under [MUSIC], [VIDEO] and [PICTURE] folders at root level has been added.

Although new firmware are good for normal usage, but enthusiastics usually do not prefer to have such updates. PSP homebrews has been a hot topic since its release, the ability to utilise fully the function of PSP is the dream of all PSP users. New firmwares does not allow such homebrews to run on PSP.
